A letter to David…and myself…and you too?

“I hope you made it home safely yesterday and have given your body some much needed TLC.

I am very grateful we met yesterday, not only because I felt an exciting glimpse of what could be when you spoke from your heart. I’ve been thinking of all the ways I can help you, and in doing so realised I needed to hear much of what I’m about to say myself – time to leave the dark box. So thank you for showing up!

Getting your message out organically is a fine thing. You’ve probably noticed that for organic things to thrive they need sunshine, water, fertiliser, care and attention in just the right amounts. Leave them in a box and they wither and die.  Stop bullshitting yourself, and step through your fear.

The great prophets didn’t sit in caves hoping someone would notice and talk about them.  They got out and walked and talked amongst the people.  The modern equivalent of that is speaking gigs, TV, radio, podcasts, YouTube, and all the social media outlets (where are you personally on Facebook? On LinkedIn?) – it no longer takes centuries to be recognised as a prophet. (Uncomfortable with that label? Get over it. If you get your message out so it changes the world, that’s how you will be spoken about in the future. You must lead so others can follow, then pass.) So you didn’t like some of Russell Brand’s message but he got your bum on his seat – how?  Model those successfully getting heard, whether you like their message or not.  Tune into the business of being a prophet. (Including business prophets like Sir Richard Branson – it can be fun too, in fact it needs to be for your target audience.)

You must have had balls to be so successful in your corporate career.  Being spiritual doesn’t mean self-castration.  That sharp intellect, decisiveness, the thrill of successfully getting your message heard is all part of you.  You were given your recent messages because you had served your apprenticeship and are ready to put those honed talents to use, as intended all along.  Let go of the idea you’ve started afresh with a brand new identity – you are building on who you already are, those solid foundations you put down over the years.  Of course your old cronies don’t recognise you – but they will when you truly show up, balls and all.

Some springs become trickling streams, little babbling brooks, and stay that way, some never even making it to the sea.  Others find a path that allows other tributaries to join in and gradually become majestic rivers, carving out the land over time, sometimes changing direction as they grow, flowing into the ocean.  Other rivers start with a glacial snow melt and the raging torrent carves a new path before spreading out and settling into a nurturing flow.

You were moaning about only 5 followers (now 6) on You Tube. I’m not surprised. 4 talking heads posted 8 months ago. What is there to follow?  (Refer back to modelling comments above.)  Oh, and please ditch the plain white background – go into nature to record your message. It’ll feel so much easier.

Who are you wanting to lead?  Those currently under 25 are the ones who can make the most difference.  How do you engage them?  A talking head dad doesn’t cut it. Who do the bright ones – our current/future scientists, artists, teachers, engineers, creators and entrepreneurs follow right now?  Enrol your kids and that wonderful artist to greenlight all the ways your message can reach and be absorbed by those who really count.  An animated series?  Movie? Music?  They can tell you if you ask and listen. It’s just business – the business of changing the world – and you know how to do this.  Remember where you last used your balls and go and find them – so you can lead yourself first.

Yes, our generation needs to hear as well, and we will, once you focus on our kids.  Just focus on us and the kids won’t own it. You’re a dad, you know that.

As for the ‘spiritual’ community, hmmm, there are different spheres.  Personally I prefer to mix with those getting on with creating change through their businesses & lives, acknowledging their awareness of all there is, but not using it as an excuse not to take action ‘The Universe will provide’, or as an egotistical I’m-more-spiritual-than-you.

While you were talking a few names came to mind:

Lisa Murray (Creativity Lab)

Shauna Teaken

Robin Sharma “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari”

William Whitecloud “The Magician’s Way”

Lisa & Shauna live in Brisbane and are great examples of spiritual people living in the real world.  If you prefer an introduction to them, let me know.

Robin Sharma has been through and moved beyond your current experiences.  William Whitecloud lives in Byron Bay. Visit.

You don’t need to wait for your third book, that’s fear speaking – focus on promoting the first two and they will be hungry, and so ready, for your third. And all that follows.

Keep in touch!

Kind regards
