A litmus test I’ve used for years to check my inner levels of happiness is as quick and easy as looking in the mirror, closely. Yes, the eyes are your mirror to your soul, but the easier identifier is your mouth. Specifically the corners of your mouth. Look in the mirror with a neutral expression. Do the corners of your mouth turn up, down or are level? Up means you’ve been smiling a lot and are generally positive and happy. A neutral mouth is that, neutral, an OK kind of happiness, without the joy. And of course a down turned mouth is a serious sign (pun intended) you need to focus on bringing more joy into your life. If you have those serious lines from your mouth down to your chin, it means you’ve been too heavy hearted and negative for much too long.
So what to do? Firstly gently turn your mouth up every time you look in the mirror and/or think of it. Faking it does help in this case. Secondly spend some quiet time thinking of your ideal happy world, and then identify what’s missing in your current life. Thirdly work out your plan of action, one step at a time for change is fine. It’s not the amount or speed of change that matters, it’s the fact you actually start! What are the first 3 steps towards what you do want? Do those, notice the impact, then choose another 3 steps. Keep going until you find yourself in the happy place you want to be.
Remember, if nothing changes, nothing changes. You can let go of all that head trash and grow in contentment.
