Nestled in her hand, it really was a delight to behold. Seeing the pretty ribbons on the box brought the memories flooding back. Memories of how she’d stood in that cool wonderland, her eyes and nose soaking up sense-reeling array of handmade chocolate fantasies. How she’d carefully read the labels, mentally rolling the flavours on her tongue before finally selecting her $2.50 morsel of heaven. Watching as the assistant gently gift wrapped it before passing it over with a smile. Now it was time to feast her eyes once more before succumbing to the gustatory indulgence. She felt so spoilt and special as she dissolved each orgasmic nibble on her tongue while her favourite music swirled through the room.
Meanwhile, her alter-ego hesitated in front of the supermarket display before grabbing the super-family size chocolate bar on special for $2.50, and stuffing it under the cereal in her trolley. Unloading the groceries into her car she tossed the chocolate onto the front seat. Before driving off, the wrapper was torn and 4 pieces crammed into her mouth. By the time she was home, most of the chocolate was in her stomach, the rest on her fingers, mouth and steering wheel. She felt sick from guilt and too much fat and sugar. Catching a glimpse of herself in the mirror she let fly with a torrent of self abuse. Feeling thoroughly unhappy she plonked herself in front of the TV with a packet of plain crackers to calm her churning stomach.
It’s not just about quantity and quality, is it? It’s about how you value and treat yourself. A spiky thin Vegan who uses food restriction in a self-punishing way is far less healthy than the curvy one who enjoys life’s pleasures with every cell of her body. Torrents of abuse and self-loathing are toxic to everyone. The impact ripples out across your whole life, including finances, health, career and relationships . Life is too short to spend it being mean to yourself. You can enjoy everything in moderation, including moderation!
